Enjoy the following recap of Episode 2 of Survivor: Micronesia, The Sounds of Jungle Love:
The Fans: How many fans does it take to start a fire? It seems the answer is 7. It would be 10, except that Kathy, Tracy and Chet don’t do much of anything. It’s Day 4, and the fans don’t have much to show for themselves - mastery of fire or otherwise. Kathy compares the experience to high school, feeling like she has already been ostracized. Much like high school, Kathy bands together with the other outcasts (Tracy and Chet) and the three build their own shelter.
The Favorites: Ozzy is attracted to Amanda because she is “so cute”. Parvati flirts with James.
The Fans: The fans - quick to jump on Tracy, Chet and Kathy - realize that they made a pretty sweet shelter for themselves, and ask Tracy for help replicating it. They finally get their fire and are generally pleased with themselves. Though some scream unity, there’s then footage of Mary and Mikey B. flirting and Joel asserting that the 3 outsiders should be the first to go.
The Favorites: Nighttime. Snuggling. Spooning. Yao-Man sleeps with his glasses on? Jonathan recruits Cerie for his alliance as they lament the excessive couplings that are occurring.
The Challenge: 5 swimmers must smash tiles and get keys, which open up boxes with a puzzle that 3 puzzle masters must complete. A member of the losing team will go to Exile Island (which can be bad - being left out of everything - or good in the event that the person finds a hidden immunity idol).
The Results: The teams start out relatively on par with each other, until Chet is an embarrassment for the fans. He can’t find his key, and then seems to just stupidly float around in the water, as if this weren’t a race. The favorites obliterate the fans, who never even get to start their puzzle. They win fishing gear and a boat, and won’t have to send anybody home. They choose Kathy from the fans to go to Exile Island (poor Kathy, even the other team who hasn’t witnessed her strange behavior seems to know that she’s a piece of work).
A twist?!: The fans must also send someone to Exile Island. They choose Cerie. On the island, Cerie acts kind of defeatist. Kathy is surprisingly adept at figuring out the clues (granted, they’re not that hard, but still) - I maintain that her cluelessness with her tribe is an act.
The Fans: Discussion of who to send home. Chet or Tracy. Joel thinks Mikey B is on a power trip and he doesn’t like it. Personally, I think he’s just jealous that Mary seems to have gone for Mikey B. Furthermore, Joel goes on a far greater power trip than Mikey B and convinces everyone to vote for Mary (again, if he can’t have her, send her away…though his rationale is that it will weaken Mikey B).
Tribal Council: Jeff reminds Chet that he sucked at the challenge. Harsh. In a nail biter of a vote, it first seems that Mikey B has gotten his way (with some votes for Chet and Tracy), but in the end Mary collects 5 votes and is sent home. In the favorites’ power struggle, I’d say the tally is, Joel: 1. Mikey B: 0.
Comments
I felt that ousting Mary was dumb, it should have been Mikey B. Joel says they will need Mikey more for challenges, but isn’t he supposed to be a huge Survivor fan? That is not always the case!
