Survivor: Gabon Episode 7 Recap

Still lamenting their lack of food, Fang estimates that they have about 30 handfuls of rice left.  However, Crystal managed to spill it, so they have less than that.  Graciously, Crystal refuses to eat since she spilled the rice.

At Kota, Dan is whining to everyone that he doesn’t feel like he’s part of any group.  Marcus observes that Dan is the ultimate in paranoia.

The tribes head to the Reward Challenge where three members of each tribe toss a breakable ball back and forth among their tribe mates, while one member of the opposite tribe tries to catch or break the ball.   Each time one tribe’s ball breaks, the other tribe gets one point.  The first tribe to score 3 points wins the reward, which is an awesome one this time.  The winning tribe gets to go by helicopter to a remote location and have a picnic.  The winners also get to send one member of the losing tribe to Exile.

Because Kota has more members than Fang, they get to sit two people out – Charlie and Corinne.   Kota quickly scores the three points needed to win the reward.  They get the picnic, and send Sugar back to Exile.  This is a record-breaking 5 trips in a row to Exile for Sugar.

Kota travels by helicopter to the edge of a crater for their picnic.  During the picnic, a native brings them a package, which contains letters from home for each of them.

When the tribes meet Jeff for the Immunity Challenge, he tells them that both tribes will be going to Tribal Council, meaning each tribe will have to vote someone off.  The challenge will be for individual immunity.  The challenge is a log roll.  Two at a time, the Survivors will face off on the log, and whoever stays on the longest will advance to the next round, continuing until there are three left.  Those three then face off, with the last one standing winning individual immunity.  Pairings are Dan and Ace, with Ace advancing; Charlie and Crystal with Charlie moving on; Marcus and Matty, Randy and Susie, Sugar and Ken, and Bob and Corinne, with Marcus, Randy, Sugar and Bob advancing.  Second round is Charlie and Ace, with Ace in the final; Marcus and Randy with Marcus advancing; and Sugar and Bob, with Sugar moving on.  The final is Ace, Marcus and Sugar.  Marcus wins the individual immunity.

In a twist, Jeff tells Marcus that he can choose one other Survivor to receive individual immunity as well.  Marcus chooses Sugar.

Back at both camps, lobbying to stay in the game is fast and furious.  At Fang, Ace asks Sugar for her hidden immunity idol, which she doesn’t give him.  Smart girl!

At Fang’s Tribal Council, they once again argued about the rice.  Sugar brilliantly observed that the reason Fang isn’t winning any challenges is that they (individually) won’t let go of the petty things and concentrate on the big picture.  Sugar is a lot smarter than I initially gave her credit for.

The vote went 3 for Ace and 2 for Crystal, so Ace was voted out ~ FINALLY!  He deserved to go a long time ago.  Sugar voted for Ace, realizing it was in her best interest to do so.

Jeff observed that after 21 days, Fang was finally starting to play the game.

Kota’s members weren’t sure if Dan had the hidden idol or not, since he was the only other Survivor besides Sugar to go to Exile.  Members debated whether or not to vote for Dan, since he was so paranoid about everything, or for Susie, since she was the weakest tribe mate.  In the end, Dan was voted out.

Is a merge on the horizon?  We’ll find out soon.
